KIRKUS REVIEW

Taking their cue from Roar! (2007) with dinosaurs in place of extant animals, Mayo and Ayliffe pair a spread-filling menagerie of creatures in hot, bright colors to a patterned set of big-type–emphatic captions: “Mighty Tyrannosaurus / loved stomp, stomp, STOMPING, / gigantic legs STRIDING, enormous jaws OPENING, / jagged teeth waiting for guzzle, GUZZLING! / So STOMP, Tyrannosaurus, STOMP!” After the Tyrannosaurus has stomped, the Diplodocus has swished (its tail), the Pteranodon glided and the Plesiosaur zoomed, they and all the rest are invited to participate in a grand and noisy parade that young audiences will be eager to emulate. Even within this very simple, toddler-friendly format, the author takes advantage of some of the newer dinosaur research to present “Feathered Oviraptor,” who “loved guard, guard, GUARDING” its eggs. Long dino-names prevent any steady beat from forming, but as a high volume read-aloud candidate, this makes a decent substitute for Paul and Henrietta Stickland’s classic Dinosaur Roar. Endpapers present all the dinos with names and pronunciations. (Picture book. 2-6)
