THE GORGON'S HEAD: A Myth From the Isles of Greece

The story of Perseus, told in smooth if unexceptional prose and decorated with monochromatic pictures full of high seas, threatening skies, horizontally flowing hair suggesting wind and motion, and oddly flowing robes that leave the figures effectively naked (nude?) -- a condition that suits the scaly Gorgons, verges on the ludicrous elsewhere, and lends a self-consciously classical air to the whole performance.
