KIRKUS REVIEW

An exciting girl's story based on actual letters and records which tell of Boone's amazing life. Jemima, called ""Duck"" as a child, was one of an enormous family which moved from the banks of the Yadkin River out to the Kentucky frontier and helped found Boonesborough. There is plenty of adventure, fighting and settling, girls of those early days had more than enough responsibility. They matured young, so it was not unusual to have Jemima marry at the age of sixteen.
