Grown ups will love this and will share it with children -- hence the suggestion of using it as a good read-aloud book. The story of an old milk wagon horse who -- in spite of his driver's objections -- was retired to the country, there to languish and grow old. He missed his route, he missed the city sounds, he missed his master -- but it was almost too late before they found it out. This is Margaret Van Doren's first book in which she has done both text and pictures. I like it better than the ones she has illustrated for others. But -- do children like them?
