KIRKUS REVIEW

At least half of the fables and old fashioned tales included in this anthology of more than 50 stories, will greet youngstern in their second and third grade readers, where they will be read independently. So treat this as primarily a listening book -- each story is short, illustrated by Leonard Welsgard's pictures (not yet seen) and ideal for . The adult ""interpreter"" will remember Rumpelstiltskin, Johnny Cake, Three Billy Goats Gruff, Musicians of and The Emperor's New Clothes. A few authored selections such as two by Kipling are interspersed in a variety of old favorites.
