This handsome, comprehensive survey of the subject is intended primarily as a college text, but all armchair dabblers in the study of man's habitat will be inter in having this basic text on their shelves. The first part discusses the field of study with which geography deals, and its tools and vocabulary -- globes, maps and xharts. Part II examines the physical elements of the earth and their distribution; Part III the nature and distribution of the cultural elements -- world population, manufacturing regions, agriculture, mining, forest areas, fisheries, trade routes and transportation. The last section suggests paths for specialized study.
