Not up to some of her previous work (particularly our favorite Runaway Bunny). Too obviously done for a purpose -- to take away the fear of the dark -- and yet not essentially childlike enough to take that hurdle. A story of two cats, one white, one black, one who loved the day and one who loved the night, and was bent upon converting the other one. Perhaps the text would have been better, had the illustrations been better. The almost grotesquely artificial Leonard Weisgard pictures seem wrongly keyed to the age and story.
