THE LOST CHAPEL PICNIC by Margery Sharp

THE LOST CHAPEL PICNIC

By

Pub Date: July 11th, 1973
Publisher: Little, Brown

A corsage (in keeping with the wife who picks a fresh rose every morning for the buttonhole of the husband who thinks she no longer notices him) of lighter-gauged stories which have appeared through the years in periodicals -- Collier's or the Woman's Journal or the Ladies Home Journal and so forth. Many of them deal with a quiet form of restitution of one kind or another; a child's who is a ""Thief of Time"" for fifteen minutes; an old man robbed of the gratification of revenge in ""The Snuff-Box"" settling for what little is left; the benevolent repercussions of an imitation ""Amethyst Cat."" There is also a suicide, a possible murder, and a complaisantly accepted adultery. Miss Sharp's ever constant readers will find the usual felicities -- of the Club or the tennis party or the Wedgwood teacup -- as well as the reassurance that there will always be an England that was.
