KIRKUS REVIEW

The decease of Judge Bath, and the insurance it involves- be it suicide or murder, alerts the suspicion of Hugh Everton, a young man soured by an earlier experience with Lucy, the widow Bath leaves- unbereaving. A dog that bayed, a missing pair of glasses and a missing girl, extortion and a refugee-running racket provide a whole passel of imponderables for Everton, whose dour deductions brighten the case. Neat.
