INDONESIA: LAND OF CHALLENGE

Banking on more than the author's name in the field of juvenile writing, we recommend this as a serious yet readable study of the island chain that so recently won independence- a good book for project and supplementary reading. From her years in Indonesia where her husband was a cultural attache, she writes with color- not only of the aspects of the land that meet the eye- the customs, the family life, the street scenes- but of the political issues as well -- and from the result we get a finely segmented picture of this part of the new Asia.
