A somewhat naive story, written with a certain zest in the telling and a real sense of the countryside that keeps it from being banal. Again a story of a hill-top farm in Maine, a hundred years ago -- with Quaker Jonathan, who could use his fists at need, and hot-headed Peleg, who was still fighting the Revolution in spirit, both determined to find and keep the homestead they had planned for, no matter what the crafty lawyer neighbor had to say to the contrary. This is the story of that battle -- and of the romance that grew out of it.
