A satisfying biography for young people of the glittering, fascinating queen is a difficult task, which the author has accomplished with tact and delicacy. Omitting references to the love affairs, the intimate difficulties with lethargic Louis and the more unsavory activities in the court, the author manages to project the charm and aggressive gaiety of the lovely woman who succumbed to the lure of a decaying magnificence only to be destroyed in its fall. The narrative follows Antoinette from her gay girlhood to gallant death.
