Musical memoirs in fictional form, which retrace happier days and the high-hearted experiences of Katika. She married Peter Ambrozy at 18, toured as a member of his quartet; roasted her first chicken in Paris- complete with insides; had trouble with Erik's ladies, as they disentangle him from a mother-to-be and adopt the baby; went to America, Russia, Spain, the continent again where Otto is the willing victim of Frou Frou; has a baby in Budapest, and so on. The quartet breaks up as Frou Frou accomplishes Otto's breakdown, and the war destroys old ties. Peter takes a position in an American university...From the gay and irresponsible vie boheme, to soberer, sadder moments, these episodes have a pleasant frivolity, sentimentality, if no great importance.
