A GALLERY OF CHILDREN by Marian King

A GALLERY OF CHILDREN

By

Pub Date: Sept. 7th, 1955

As a collection of twenty-one portraits of children selected from the paintings that hang in Washington's National Gallery, this has an ageless appeal. Putting it in the 8 to 11 group is only arbitrary placement. Reproduced in deep green and white, the portraits have a good clarity and the accompanying texts explain the painter's backgrounds as well as those of the subjects. Thumbing through the pages, one meets familiar young faces- Victor Guye's as painted by Goya, Rembrandt's Girl with a Broom the illumined boy blowing Chardin's Soap Bubbles and Romney's Miss Willough by Marian King is also the author of fine historical biographies and her ""gallery"" merits serious consideration from those who want to present art to young people.
