The story of Joseph in its adventure, mysterious overtones and lesson in forgiveness, is a great favorite with juvenile authors, and here is another a bit more philosophical and consciously ""authentic"" than most. The story of Jacob's son- his deep love for his father and younger brother Benjamin, his early dreams, his slavery in Egypt, and after his interpretation of the dreams of Pharoah, his supremacy in Egypt -- is told here using, in the main, quotations from the Bible text with added meditations by Joseph which supplies the spiritual tone. Although some of the scholarship may be questioned, the tone is serious, thoughtful, never ponderous, and the appealing, powerful story is allowed full play.
