A careful study of source material woven into a sound record, which gives a well-rounded story of the years spent by a future queen, many of them in exile, in prison, some in the sunshine of her father's approval, of her sister Mary's acquiescence. Always she maintained her individuality. But we are told this -- rather than seeing it for ourselves, and there is singularly little detail of her personality or her way of daily life or the settings that made her background. As a piece of writing, it is the soundest thing Marian King has done.
