The achievements in geology are collected from ancient times to the present day providing the young scientist with a view of the many faceted possibilities in this field. The first geologist presented is Thales of Miletus, an ancient Greek who discovered that water could change the face of the land. As the teachings of Genesis appeared to clash with the basic tenets of geological discovery, the science was repressed, but gradually emerged with the investigations of Copernicus. Guetland's fossil discoveries, Werner's rock classifications, the work of the early British geologists all contributed sources to the reconstruction of ancient life here synthesized according to period. The book is not meant as any summation but rather as a springboard for further discovery tempting all who are interested in our earth and its origins. Well presented.
