Debut author Johansen creates an easy-to-read but thorough discussion of some of the toughest topics of daily life—such as how to deal with troubling thoughts, fears, and feelings, how to remember the importance of joy and laughter, and how to take care of one’s body in order to facilitate a full, healthy life. In one engaging anecdote, the author tells of reading horoscopes about herself and her husband, even after her husband died; one day, she realized that her spouse’s horoscope no longer accurately applied to him, and she concluded, with the help of her astrologer, that he’d simply passed into another realm, away from hers. Many readers will benefit from Johansen’s open-minded perspective, and her short passages effectively determine how each idea or principle fits best into everyday life. The book’s section on the body goes further than many other self-help books, exploring such topics as chakras, Reiki, meditation, reflexology, color therapy, and other modes of holistic health that one may not find in other venues. In the end, Johansen provides an intriguing set of lessons, which combine to provide a comprehensive guide to fulfillment.
