DON'T GET ME WRONG

Kim and Harry don’t have anything in common—except their love of Kim’s sister, Eva.

Kim doesn’t love anyone more than she loves her big sister, Eva. But the one sticking point between the sisters is Harry. Eva thinks he’s charming and loves to spend time with him, but Kim hates everything he stands for. He’s a banker with plenty of money to throw around, and Kim’s convinced he mocks her constantly. As Kim grows older, she only resents Harry more for crowding into their family gatherings and inserting himself into her life. And when Eva gets pregnant and won’t tell anyone who the father is, Kim assumes it’s Harry—and becomes even more angry that he’ll continue to be in her life. Kim delights in coming up with reasons to hate Harry, even though he’s beloved by almost everyone else. But there’s a lot she doesn’t understand about him, and when their worst nightmare becomes a reality, she’s forced to see him in a new light. Although a romance is part of the story, the bond between Eva and Kim is the book’s heart. The two sisters are fully drawn characters with a believable relationship. Kavanagh (For Once in My Life, 2014) is able to take what could be a tired plot, complete with a Mr. Darcy archetype, and make it surprising and fresh. Readers will love this story that has all the intelligence and wit of a Richard Curtis romantic comedy.

Kavanagh creates a story of family bonds and romantic misunderstandings that manages to be both heartwarming and heartbreaking.
