THE FUN OF FIGURE SKATING

A how-to book for the skater to be, written by a champion, this starts out with advice on equipment before taking the beginner on the ice. Then she goes into preliminaries,- to stand, to take steps, to scull, and to pushoff prior to the initial guide. Then come the successive primary edges, crossovers, forward and backward skating, spirals, spread eagles, mohawks, threes, rolls, waltzing and eights that lead the skater ultimately into the figures. There are over 180 photographs and diagrams to illustrate the text. Mrs. Owen's carefully prepared and warmly shared outlines of correct methods of execution are insured by her own practical experience as teacher as well as champion.
