For Walter Williams, safe in his job at a department store, afraid of jeopardizing that job, breaks through the traces to help a boy he had first turned down when he was appealed to for help. His search leads him to a strange bar, to a pair of suicides, to a mind reader and to a band of wild, lawless boys and ends with the threat of danger to himself. But Walter learns- and denies- the vital importance of being true to not only himself but his beliefs and the impossibility of following through in the face of public scorn and careless disregard...
