There's plenty of information for young balletomanes, with the emphasis on the career aspects rather than the story, in this addition to career books in story form. Sylvia Allen wanted to get into Russian Ballet, but learned that American ballet had something to offer and something to receive. This is the story of her experiences, from beginnings at 13, the course of instruction, the first tour of the Yankee Ballet, lessons in good trouping. There's a benefit performance which proves a flop; there are various successful engagements which bring Sylvia and her fellow students some degree of fame, and to Sylvia a change to dance with the Russians, as guest artist. Readable -- and almost alone in its field.
