A story of the Aleutians in the days of Russian fur traders, musket and ball. In this setting, the author has placed a story of a red-bearded Russian captain, who with his crew came to an island and undermined its peaceful days until be became a kind of bitter master. His brutality turned away the native girl who had been interested in him, and brought down on him and his crew the violent death they merited. Oogaruk, chief of the tribe, and the girl, come to a happy ending. Romance and adventure in a strange setting, with many curious details of a primitive way of life.
