It is hard to believe that as exciting a year in sports as 1946-47 has produced no better sports stories than the average included in this disappointing collection. A few thrillers do not raise it to the level of its forerunners. The stories fall into three categories:- news coverage, feature stories, magazine stories. The closest the judges come to agreement is on Jimmy Cannon's Lethal Lightning, the story of the second Louis-Conn fight, which is a crackerjack. There are several good baseball stories, a few on football and adequate coverage only on other sports.
