KIRKUS REVIEW

The growing years of Dan Burnett are also the growing years of radio and his story is based on its possible connection with Malcolm Hansen, a pioneer in wireless who became chief radio man for the Byrd expeditions. Dan, however, is an entirely fictional character and his adventures are a family story too. Encouraged by his father, one of the first Americans to have his own wireless set, Dan finally makes it to the University of Wisconsin, famous for radio research and during World War I both Dan and his sister do important radio work. At home again, Dan is able to continue his studies and to return to his home, Afton, Pennsylvania, to become one of the first commercial radio station operators in the country. A hearty, fast moving narrative with lots of conversation couples science and family appeal for a double market.
