The hardships of life in pre-Civil War Nebraska territory conflict with young Jud Stuart's desire to print a newspaper in a simply told story of pioneering and journalism. Mr. Stuart had moved his family from Missouri- a slave state. In Nebraska Jud feels his dreams will never materialize. Mr. Stuart's death is only another of his problems but finally with determination, Jud sets out to trade in Colorado, makes his fortune and, back home, gets out his first edition in time to announce Lincoln's nomination.
