THE DOOLEYS PLAY BALL by Marion Renick

THE DOOLEYS PLAY BALL

By

Pub Date: April 1st, 1949

Everybody plays ball in the Dooley family, so what are they going to do with a girl cousin who can't? An impossible situation, so they start right in to teach her, and the reader learns with her, with the help of diagrams and directions. As a baseball how-to-do-it book, it falls short of the earlier Renick books, but the Dooleys are such a nice wholesome family, with the ball playing madness and their particular brand of family wit, that the reader becomes absorbed in them for their own sake. Nothing much happens, but of course the girl cousin ends by playing with the rest of them and so being accepted as a member of the family. Sports stories for this age- and even a bit younger- are in demand and this will pass muster. Third grade readers should be able to read it for themselves.
