DR. ZIZMOR'S SKIN CARE BOOK

A sequel to Super Skin (1976), which skims over the same areas, takes a less astringent line on cosmetics, and endorses particular brands for specific kinds of skin and hair attributes. As before, Dr. Zizmor questions the value of many health foods; he also raises doubts about megavitamins, finds many fast foods acceptable, and cautions against ""blushing foods"" like alcohol and caffeine which enlarge capillaries. ""The very best thing for your hair, of course, is to find a good hairdresser,"" but home regimens are provided for dandruff, thinning, and dry/oily problems. The advice on daily care is adequate, and if he writes off warnings about birth control pills, he nevertheless includes less inflammatory news about artificial sweeteners and chopped liver. Slippery in parts (only the good side of cosmetic surgery) but smooth as Sardo.
