PATROL BOY

Billy was honored by his acceptance on the school safety patrol but disappointed with his assignment on a remote corner where few children crossed. How could he know that a runaway pony and a house on fire would call attention to his outpost and bring him into school limelight. Billy's initiative in the emergency situation earns him mention on a local T V show and a fine reputation with the rest of the patrol. A week at patrol camp during the summer, creative participation in the safety parade and genuine willingness to keep his original assignment wins him the captainship for the following school year. Third and fourth grade boys who look forward to membership in this important school unit will find Billy's experience pertinent.
