With Maine household hints heading the chapters and an afterword on diet by Kenneth Roberts, Maine enters its candidate among the cookery books. Some of the recipes do not sound particularly down-Maine-ish, but those items specially identified with the state are all there, and the poultry and game, fish, and sauce sections hold great promise. For the shelf of sectional cookbooks, but not as appealing as The Yankee Cook Book (Coward, McCann).
