A small boy's adventures in post-war Korea along the road to the American soldier who wants him for a son- these have a quiet wistfulness. Orphaned by the war Kim lived for a year in the ruins of a large and half-bombed house near Seoul. There Sgt. Den Minner discovers and makes friends with him. But when Len must go to the hospital for repairs on an old injury, he and Kim lose contact with each other through the movements of troops and the fact that Kim is ousted from his dwelling by a large family that moves in on him. Out on the road, Kim learns Len's outfit has been moved to Inchon. The way there for the boy brings many a wearily taken step and many a strange new sight, but he finally finds Len and is promised a new life in the United States.
