The Moffats and the Melendys are our favorite families in juvenile fiction today, and now we'll add the Merriweathers. They are lively, intelligent, interesting children, with a wide variety of interests, and the contrariness of normal youngsters. This is the story of what happened when the family was forced to move from a New York apartment to a house in a Connecticut town. Dillis, artist of the family and a twin, tells how they get settled, of the neighbors, of problems of state dislocation, and does it all with sharp-witted observation. Each member of the family emerges as a rugged individualist, and it is refreshing to have a mother who has fun with her children and doesn't look too maternal.
