BURTON AND DUDLEY

A turnabout tale about two possum friends--Burton the homebody who develops wanderlust and Dudley, who talks him into taking a walk but gets tired himself and has to be pushed home. Sharmat adapts their conversations to the limited vocabulary conventions with more grace than average, and Cooney's black and white drawings (in the last, Dudley is resting in an armchair with his feet up while Burton contemplates the globe) focus on the comforts of home and friendship without making too much of either.
