THE OTHER GIRL

Poor Polly chafes at being the ""other girl"" in the family, left behind to work as a domestic for a family not quite as respectable as they seemed while her sculptor mother Patience Wright and fashionable sister Phoebe score a social success in London. Luckily the outbreak of revolution injects some excitement into the dull routines of Philadelphia housekeeping and soon Polly is plucking secret messages from inside the wax heads her mother supplies for Aunt Rachel's wax museum, playing courier for the dashing patriot Royal Brown and wondering whether her equally dashing English suitor Preston Shelburne might be a British spy (he's not). Polly has been molded to fit the niche occupied by the historical Patience Wright's obscure daughter Elizabeth, but unlike the wax tableaux exhibited by Aunt Rachel, she is not likely to be mistaken for the real thing.
