A simply swell growing up story for girls- about a summer as a counselor at camp and its many, many concurrent adventures- by an author whose list boasts some good ones- instance Saralee's Silver Spoon and Greetings From Glenna. In her family, 18-year old Carolyn is the ugly duckling, sandwiched in between two glamorous sisters and thoroughly fed up with her gauche self. Like a trooper, she decides to try for a new outlook on life by going to a small camp in the Adirondacks, started that very summer by an old family friend. The humorous to problematic situations that arise are told in such a fresh invigorating way that the reader lives with the campers, gets in trouble with the youngsters, and in sympathy with Carolyn and her fellow counselors as their old flames flicker in the fresh winds....from a boys' camp across the lake. Gay going for new vim.
