KIRKUS REVIEW

Forest ranger stories have a unique blend of good vocational material along with adventure in the wilds. This account of Steve Dalton's first year with Montana rangers lives up to the promise. It seems a far cry from Ohio when Steve- on a cross country trek- is offered the Montana job. He learns about fire fighting; he spends a winter trapping with a pal; he earns money towards a college education in forestry; and he has a growing conviction that he has found a good life. Patterned but solid.
