Connections to drug-dealing in Marseilles, a girls' academy, and an old robbery are painstakingly explored before the dramatic denouement--which takes place as Puyceldome celebrates its 730th anniversary with vivid, medieval pageantry. The author's best in a series that steadily grows livelier and more engrossing.
