THE FIGHT FOR THE PACIFIC

By

Pub Date: May 28th, 1941
Publisher: Morrow

Staff writer for the St. Louis, Pot Dispatch and contributor to other newspapers, Mark Gayn writes conclusively and comprehensively of the coming struggle in the Far East. In scope it is best compared to Robert Aura Smith's Our Future in Asia, though there is more of historical background in the history of two decades in the Pacific. The Pacific is the setting for a ""bitter and portentous game of power politics"" -- due for a showdown this year. England's debacle in the East, as she plays the game of appeasement, conceding China, trade, prestige; Moscow, the mystery factor; the Axis Powers, using Japan as a catspaw; lesser puppets and prizes; lastly the United States, now almost face to face with an arrogant aggressor nation. An appraisal of the moves of the past, diplomatic, military, economic, rather than a projection of the next moves.
