This- for the early teens- could classify as a Western, an story of the type that holds fascination for boys of this age. There are phases the story that diverge from an otherwise fairly typical plot, involving, Jeff Radway progress in bringing a poor Montana ranch into line as a paying proposition. Missing cattle, a mysterious Pinkerton man, squatters and bad men, wonderful dogs and a successful bringing of criminals to justice supply all the ingredients for a readable yarn. One unusual phase is the approach to the question of the Chinese immigrants at the turn of the century- a challenging scrutiny.
