A young percussionist builds a drum.

An unnamed white child wishes for a drum set. Using household items, the aspiring musician crafts a drum set over the course of this short board book. The child is identified as “Daniel” in the summary on the back of the book, but the character’s bald head and lack of a name stated in the text allow readers to use their imaginations. Each turn of the page features a different component to the drum set and onomatopoeic text that teaches readers what each individual piece brings to the drum’s sound. The illustrations are clean and no-frills, not boasting any flashy color scheme or much artistic flair. The narrative is as straightforward as the illustrations, and little readers will love using it as a handy guide to building their own drum sets with stuff found around the house. Adults be warned: your little ones will definitely want to make some noise after reading this.

A simple introduction to a favorite musical instrument.
