KIRKUS REVIEW

Paul Shaw again, dealing with protection, corruption and more than one kind of payoff in one of those urban-unrenewed Jersey cities where the former mayor had been removed (via a prison rap) and a young impresario (via the mayor's wife who is twice his age) continues his organization-manned ascent using murder, blackmail and whatever ruthless means comes to hand. For the habitue who doesn't mind walking these mean streets in the company of people about whom he couldn't care less.
