A WINTER DIARY by Mark Van Doren

A WINTER DIARY

By

Pub Date: Jan. 29th, 1934

A collection of poems, opening with a long poem in descriptive narrative style -- a sort of modern Snowbound. Then follows a sheaf of exceptionally fine sonnets, emotional in content, several long poems, and a group of lyrics. The first and title poem and the sonnets seem to this reader to have a quality the others lack, no specific originality of form or content, but an undercurrent of feeling and a delicate poetic imagery.
