This biography of an organization set up to aid Jewish immigrants is essentially a family document of historical and group interest. It details the foundation of the society from 1870 and follows its participation in immigrant aid from that time. In reviewing actions taken to cope with problems in various periods, there is also an acknowledgment of world conditions and United States attitudes:- the work against the restrictionist movement before World War I, the struggle against the quota systems of the 1920's, the depression and the European holocaust which called for all the resources of the world-wide organization.
