A superficial handbook giving a few highlights of Garner's life in Texas and Washington. A lawyer, who know now to trade, who built a substantial fortune as a shrewd investor, enters politics in Texas; lands in Congress, and through his ability at poker, gets on the right side of old Joe Cannon, Speaker of the House, an advantageous position enabling him to ""get things done"" for his constituents. His all encompassing friendliness helps him up the ladder, and he in time becomes Speaker, fighting Mellon's taxation ideas as he has fought Roosevelt's. Possessed of the rare political trait of keeping his opponent's friendship, Garner's portrait is neither detailed nor well lined, and a political evaluation of the man does not emerge. However with the ""Garner-for-President"" movement, this may get a boost.
