JOE MORGAN: Sports Hero by Marshall Burchard

JOE MORGAN: Sports Hero

By

Pub Date: May 24th, 1978
Publisher: Putnam

Without a word about Morgan's personal life (just one photo, posed with wife and daughters) and very little about his pre-professional career, Burchard applies his familiar sportscasting polish to the man ""generally considered to be the most complete player in baseball today."" ""Good but not great"" during his years with Houston (""the team itself. . . was among the worst in the league""), Joe was traded in 1971 to the Cincinnati Reds--where in the final game of the 1975 World Series, he hit ""that darn blooper"" that won the Reds their first world championship in 35 years. The Reds won the World Series again in 1976, and Joe in the same two consecutive years was voted the Most Complete Player of the National League. Burchard commends Morgan's base running, quotes him on it (""I'm a movin' man""), fills in with the usual black and white photos. Smooth and steady.
