KIRKUS REVIEW

A smooth modern editing of the classic history, first published in 1843, and still important, though now superseded by more modern approaches to history. The text has vitality and vigor, muted, in the original, by lengthy footnotes and philosophical digressions. Mr. McClintook has compressed, condensed, contemporized this history, without losing the life, color or vividness of Prescott's original text, without over-dramatizing or destroying the essential quality of the chronicle of Cortes' epic deeds. A worthwhile project, which may bring a classic to modern readers.
