Phillies' superchucker and strike-out king Steve Carlton made his major league debut with St. Louis in 1965. As a steadily improving hurler with the Cardinals, Steve contributed to a club which subsequently participated in two World Series. After being traded to Philadelphia in 1972, Carlton enjoyed a truly spectacular season when he won 27 (including 15 in a row) and lost 10 as a member of a last-place team. His stellar performance during the ""72 campaign was rewarded with not only the Cy Young Award, but also the Hickok Belt signifying the outstanding professional athlete of the year. As one of the main men on the Phillies staff, Carlton is expected to help guide them to a pennant any year now. A fat pitch easy to connect with.
