They're still running drugs in Farmer's Mound, Texas, and the local police--headed by Smoky O'Donnell (A White Male Running)--are still chasing. This time, though, the evil doings seem to focus on the local radio station where two staff members have been murdered--program director Dave Hilliard and announcer Jay Bird. O'Donnell's young protÉgÉ Tommy Inman, one-time addict, begins working undercover, with limited success, trying to gain the trust of a motorcycle gang to which Jay Bird belonged. He winds up almost dead but holding the key to the gang's destruction. The author does well with the CB convoys and car-chases, the Texas accents and atmosphere, and some rocky father-son relationships. And, all in all, readers with a taste for the background will find this one mildly entertaining--and an improvement over Webb's previous outings.
