Level-headed, stout-hearted Kate Russell finds all her assets more than tested when, as a Red Cross Nurse, she is sent to Vermont to deal with a flood emergency, and later goes to wartime England. She goes through the torpedoing of the ship, the days adrift in a lifeboat, apparently without a tremor. Helping her throughout is Dr. Robertson, a young English doctor returning to England on the same ship, and this provides romantic asides. The heroine is a bit too good to be true, but OK reading.
