An exciting and spine chilling adventure in China resulted from Bon's post-High School graduation trip with his father, long promised if he took top honors. In a small city in post-war China, where his father thought he would be safe, Bob gets to know well the son of his father's Chinese partner. While the two men are away, the boys, sleuths at heart, stumble on an ancient treasure of jewels and royal jade, which involves them with desperate bandits, and leads them to several dangerous situations. Fast-moving, packed with excitement, mystery and skulduggery of a glamorously oriental kind, it should have appeal for all readers at this age level. Just one basic criticism- the boys in the story wring every step of the situation dry of all its possibilities, arguing the pros and cons- and too little is left for the reader to do on his own. This weakens the suspense and makes the story at times too slow and talky. A minor criticism, however, in a book that offers much, by way of plot and characterization.
